Katcha  LG Benefits  From  HYPADEC Boat Intervention To Enhance Waterway Safety, Community Connectivity

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen safety, transportation, and socio-economic activities in riverine communities, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger Statehas received a modern passenger boat from the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC).

The intervention, which forms part of broader initiatives aimed at improving water transportation and reducing risks associated with movement across waterways, was delivered to the Katcha Water Port following the council’s demonstrated preparedness and strategic engagement with the Commission.

The statement stated that receiving the boat on behalf of the people of Katcha, the Executive Chairman of Katcha Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Isah Baba Bida, expressed appreciation to HYPADEC for the timely intervention, noting that the support would significantly improve transportation for o of riverine communities while promoting safer movement of people and goods.

The Chairman acknowledged the contributions of the HYPADEC Coordinator for Katcha Local Government Area, Hon. Musa Alhaji Sule, and Dr. Ndeji Yinti, whose efforts facilitated the successful delivery of the project.

According to Dr. Bida, the boat will not only enhance accessibility to remote communities but will also support economic activities, strengthen social interactions, and contribute to government efforts aimed at safeguarding lives on inland waterways.

He reiterated the commitment of the council to ensuring the effective utilization and maintenance of the facility for the benefit of all residents, stressing that the intervention reflects the importance of collaboration between development agencies and local authorities in addressing the unique challenges of riverine communities.

The Chairman further described the project as a testament to the impact of strategic partnerships in advancing community development and improving the quality of life of citizens across Katcha Local Government Area.
