Eight staff of the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, (NSIRS),have been arrested by the State Police Command for allegedly diverting Billions of Naira in state revenue to personal accounts.
This followed Investigation outcomes which indicated that the employees were involved in the diversion, revealing also that more staff may have been involved in the financial crime.
The arrested staff are currently detained by SCID for questioning, while financial records are being audited to determine the full scale of the fraud.
Further checks suggested that misappropriation of the funds has been ongoing for years, with senior officers allegedly among the beneficiaries.
The suspects reportedly acquired luxury cars and multiple properties across the state.
Police have arraigned some of the staff before Magistrate Court 1 in Minna for further remand to complete investigations ahead of prosecution.
It was further revealed by a reliable source at the State Police Command Headquarters in Minna that the suspects will be arraigned after the probe.
Meanwhile,the Niger State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement with regards to the ongoing investigation on the matter.
